HOME / THE ASSOCIATION

The European Association of the Camino di San Colombano is a partnership that brings together regions, provinces, counties, cities, local communities, public and private associations of different categories that are interested in the cultural heritage of San Colombano, in particular in those territories crossed by the Itinerary. The fundamental objective is to restore and celebrate the historical links between all these territories, which constitute a broad band across Europe, from Ireland to Italy, each representing a different aspect of the Camino di San Colombano. Places that preserve the spiritual and cultural memory of the “Irish” movement are fundamental in constructing the modern European continent. The territorial corridor of reference is traced between the sixth and seventh centuries by the monk Columbanus, born in Leinster (Republic of Ireland) in 540 AD, who carried out his monastic function in Bangor (Northern Ireland, United Kingdom). It extends across eight European states: the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein and Italy.
