THE OBJECTIVES

The fundamental objective of the Association is to restore and celebrate the historical links between all these territories, which constitute a wide swath across Europe, from Ireland to Italy, each representing a different aspect of the The Columban Way. Places that preserve the spiritual and cultural memory of the “Irish” movement are fundamental in constructing the modern European continent.
In particular, it aims to:

  • bring together and coordinate all organizations and individuals who are active along the Columban Way and who are interested in its development, valorization, recognition, and promotion
  • develop recognition and appreciation of the places and territories associated with Colombanus and his disciples;
  • work with scientific and educational partners to increase understanding of the Irish monastic movement in Europe and the life, historical context, work, and heritage of Columbanus, Gallus, and their disciples; – collaborate with competent cultural organizations and public authorities to encourage and safeguard cultural and pilgrimage journeys along the “Columban Way”, in particular, by providing adequate infrastructure and services;
  • work to develop tourism and sustainable tourism products on the theme of the Irish monastic movement in Europe and relating to Columbanus, Gallus, and their disciples and their heritage;
  • coordinate and harmonize activities that promote the cultural heritage of the territories affected by the Columban Way, developing their attractiveness as tourist destinations and encouraging the marketing of local products;
  • develop and promote initiatives for young people from the countries and territories crossed by the Way, to strengthen knowledge of their national roots and consolidate the common European identity and cultural activities in line with Resolution no. 67 (2013 ) of the Council of Europe on cultural itineraries;
  • develop and maintain profitable relations with the institutions of the European Union, in particular with the European Commission, the Council of Europe, and with the European Institute of Cultural Itineraries and consistently request the certification of the Columban Way as an Itinerary Cultural Council of Europe;
  • promote dialogue and exchange of good practices with other European cultural itineraries on related topics, including pilgrimage routes, monasticism, and ancient history.
  • carry out any activity connected to those listed above, as well as carry out all acts and conclude all commercial, financial, securities, and real estate transactions necessary or valuable for achieving these objectives.
